Thinking About Christmas In America

Christmas with lights, America, located south of the equator, enjoys the heat of summer. Stores hold special holiday sales, and as December 24 approaches, more and more gifts are purchased, wrapped, and carefully hidden from excited children. An American Christmas is similar to one spent with family in many ways. In other ways, it contradicts the commercialised  holiday that we are accustomed to in North America and Europe.

IN AMERICA, HOW TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS
The most important holiday in America is December 24. Parents rush from store to store during the day in search of last-minute gifts. This time of year, toy stores are the busiest because the gift-giving tradition is primarily reserved for children, and adults rarely receive gifts. When all of the gifts have been purchased and wrapped, they are hidden until Christmas Eve at midnight. Some people attend Mass before dinner, but this is not a common practise in America. People usually go to a family member’s house around 9 or 10 p.m. and have a large dinner.

SPECIAL FOODS ARE SAVED ONLY FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Americans make special foods that they wait all year for and eat only on Christmas, such as pionono, sweet bread rolled up like cinnamon roll and filled with layers of ham, tuna, or veggies and covered with cream cheese topping.
There are several types of pianos. Many Americans eat fruit salad with dulce de leche, pan dulce, or Italian panettone (both similar to fruit cake), or special Christmas cake with dulce de leche and sweet cream for dessert. The dinner lasts until around midnight, when the real party starts.At midnight, the children rush outside to watch the fireworks, which are launched from the streets in front of their homes. Multiple mini-fireworks displays can sometimes be seen from single location on the street.
Adults in America usually follow with glasses of Champagne and Christmas toast. When the fireworks have finished, everyone returns inside to find that Papa Noel, or Santa Claus, has left gifts under the Christmas tree.
People finally go home and to bed after the last gift has been opened and all of the pan dulce has been consumed.
It is customary for people to stay home on December 25.  Children wake up and play with their new toys, and some people have second Christmas dinner, but it is typically very peaceful day.

NO CHRISTMAS CAROL SOUNDS
Christmas carols and movies are not as popular in the United States.
Radio stations don’t play Christmas music all year, and Hallmark isn’t as popular down south.
Christmas Day sounds like any other day in household without all of the carolling.
Because it is frequently hot outside, most people stay at home or go to the beach if one is nearby.
You took beach vacation for the first time, waited for the heat to pass, and then drove to the coast around p.m., spending your hours splashing in the waves before the sun went down.
